To really know how to take care of your pet, you first need to understand how they behave and react to pain or discomfort.

A natural animal instinct is to hide its pain from showing as a way of fronting to predators. It doesn’t want its enemies to know it is weak so they don’t seize that opportunity to attack it. So, your pet would do just that instinctively though it is not in the jungle.

A key step to being able to properly take care of pets is to understand the meaning of some behavior they might exhibit since hey can’t talk to us. A simple set of clues have been provided by the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) and we’ll be looking at them briefly.

To benefit from these guides, we need to closely observe our pets so we can identify these telltale signs to correctly decode them.

One clue is the way your pet chews its food. Watch closely. Is your pet easily dropping its food or is it chewing with one part of its mouth? These could easily be as a result of a dental problem or a problem in the mouth. Excessive rubbing of the face or bad breath are also signs tat could be indicative of a dental related disorder. Doing a routine dental check up is very important to prevent and or treat these issues.

Another clue to watch out for is drastic weight gain or loss. When your pet is in pain, its eating habit would likely be affected and its weight is likely going to be affected too. Another thing is this. If your pet is carrying around excess weight, they are more likely to damage a joint or tear a ligament. Your pet would find it difficult to bend and access its food if it has arthritis pain or even muscle soreness. This can have two effects. 1, If your pet can’t access its food due to the pain, then it would likely lose weight. 2, If despite the pain it can still maintain its feeding habit, then it would likely add weight due to the fact that the pain would not allow it exercise. On the other hand, the pain can cause it to lose its appetite.
